Tableaux vivants, or living pictures, are imitations of paintings created inside a large frame with real people. The parlor game peaked in popularity between 1830 and 1920, and Daniel Chester French’s family home was no exception.

One of the wonderful things that the beautiful boutique hotel in dowtown Pittsfield does is regularly exhibit works by regional artists for all to view. Sally Tiska Rice, a lifelong Berkshire resident, will be Hotel on North’s featured artist from July 1 through September 1.

Artists Deborah H. “Deb” Carter and Joanie Ciolfi are collaborating in an exhibit that opens June 7 in the Brick Dwelling at Hancock Shaker Village.
